The team at Carejobz Perioperative Specialists are recruiting for a day surgery in Brisbane. We are looking for two Scrub Scout Nurses for general surgery, on a permanent full-time basis.

About the Facility

A private day hospital in Brisbane, part of a national group. The site covers general surgery, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, urology, oral and maxillofacial, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. The group has recently introduced a perioperative education programme for its nursing teams, aligned to ACORN, ACPAN and NSQHS Standards.

The Role

You will scrub and scout on general surgery lists, working to ACORN Standards, taking day-to-day direction from the Nurse Unit Manager or Department Coordinator within a structure that reports to the CEO and Director of Nursing.

This is day surgery, so the list moves. Beyond general surgery, the theatre list also covers gastroenterology, ophthalmology, urology, oral and maxillofacial, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. The hospital is looking for nurses who are versatile and open to picking up other specialties over time. You are not expected to arrive holding every speciality the theatre runs.

In this role, you will:

  • Scrub and scout on general surgery lists

  • Prepare instrumentation, equipment and the sterile field for each case

  • Maintain sterile technique and infection control practice throughout

  • Support the surgical team through the procedure and manage counts

  • Instruct and assist colleagues in the use of specialised equipment

  • Maintain accurate patient and unit records

  • Contribute to accreditation, quality and safety programmes

  • Participate in orientation and teaching of new staff

What You Will Bring

  • Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse

  • Recent scrub and scout experience in general surgery

  • Experience in a day surgery or day procedure setting

  • Working knowledge of ACORN Standards

  • Current Basic Life Support

  • Able to meet workforce immunisation requirements

  • Unrestricted right to work in Australia

Why You Will Want to Know More

  • Up to $53.43 per hour depending on pay point, under the Nurses Award 2020 (this is the Registered Nurse pay point 8 rate; Enrolled Nurse pay point to be confirmed)

  • Permanent full-time appointment

  • Two positions available

  • Day surgery hours

  • Access to a perioperative education programme with a pathway to speciality certification

  • Annual education, infection control training and life support training provided

  • A group with sites across Australia, so internal movement is possible

If this sounds like the kind of theatre opportunity you have been waiting for, we would love to speak with you.

Kate or Paul will be happy to talk you through the opportunity, answer your questions honestly, and help you decide whether it feels like the right next step for you.
